When designing your web site, there is more to consider than just how it will look to your clients. Whilst visual appeal is important, accessibility and speed also need careful thought. These are some of the design considerations we implement when developing your web site: - Visual Appeal
Your site needs to attract your target demographic. If your business is in the corporate sector, then it makes sense for your web site to have a corporate design with clean lines, straight-forward navigation and high readability of text. Whereas if you are selling the latest alternative music, you may be better served with a progressive, trash-style site where it may take some time to find the navigation amidst all the images and AdobeFlashâ„¢ animation that is happening. - Ease of Use
You can have a wealth of information on your web site, but if the general user does not understand your navigation system, they may never get to your sales page, or information brochure. Therefore, catering to the lowest common denominator in your target demographic is extremely important. You may have to sacrifice some elements of your design to ensure ease of use. - Browser Standards Compliance
Currently Microsoft's Internet Explorer is the number one browser used by about 75% of internet users. However, Internet Explorer is not renowned for being compliant to the Worldwide Web Consortium guidelines for browser compatibility. The other two major browsers used by another 20% of users are Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari. An experienced designer will develop their sites to be compatible with Firefox, and then make changes (hacks) to ensure compatibility with Internet Explorer and other web browsers. If your website supports these three browsers then you will be compatible with 98% of internet users. - Speed
While it is important to have your site hosted on a fast server, if your images are very large and/or you utilise a lot of AdobeFlashâ„¢, you may have trouble keeping dial-up users online.
